Breaking the Module

Wow, it's been a while since I updated about the friday group. I guess I can summarize it quickly and get to the part I want to rant about...

The party dicked around at random until they cleared the formerly-flying city ruins; the main boss was killed when Sin used all the charges of the staff they'd found in the power plant on an inanimate obelisk that looked like it was the 'Guardian Stone' aka 'Shoggoth Stone' that a book they'd found in a library referred to. Sure enough, that killed the boss (who had no treasure) and dispelled the fog, making moving around the city a lot easier. They visited a few more sites that looked likely to have treasure, then moved on.

To the elves, who wanted to hire them to spy on the Dark Elven city. A Necromancer changed them into dark elves using a long-duration polymorph spell (7th level, requiring the corpse of the person you're imitating) and they were sent through a portal with a regiment of wood elf infantry 'chasing' them. They pretended to help fight off the elves, then ran away while the dark elf soldiers bickered about who should be their next commander since their last one died in combat.

GM: "An old man with a cart says, 'hail!'"
Kijji: "Um, hi."
OMWC: "I saw you come through the portal. You shouldn't stick around here, lest you get conscripted back into the company of those suicidal idiots in the army."
Kijji: "Yes, that's why we were running away. Bye!"
OMWC: "Don't you want a ride?"
Kijji: "... fine." *motions for Tales to cast Charm Monster*
OMWC: *saves easily, but pretends it didn't happen* "Tell me about your life in the other world!"
Kijji: Once we're in the woods, we murder him, right?
Everyone else: *completely ignores the whole exchange*

GM: You talk with the old man for four hours. When you're in sight of the city, he reveals that he's a noble of house Verboten and offers you a position as servants.

Kijji: "Seriously? No thanks. If we're ever starving and broke and living out of a cardboard box we'll take you up on that. Bye."

They watched the old man easily get past the only gate into the city, while everyone else is hassled and questioned.
Ishtar (controlled by GM): "We should have gone with him, now how are we getting into the city?"
Kijji: "He knows who we are; hanging around him is suicide. Our only hope to pull this off is anonymity."
Ishtar: "Lots of people saw us come through the gate..."
Kijji: "But none of them know us."
Ishtar: "They know our descriptions."
Kijji: "So? All dark elves look alike."
Everyone: *stare at Kijji*

To get into the city, they used an invisibility sphere with a communal air walk, after checking that the guards on the walls didn't have see invisible (or any divination spells) up.

GM: "Okay, we'd better stop here while I find the part of the module where it explains what to do if you turn down Lord Verboten's offer. The whole module is about rising through the ranks of his servants."

Me: "Really? I figured this was a heist mission, where we use our powers of magic and sneakiness to get the info, not our powers of bluff and social. Since we don't have any of those."

After a half hour of searching, it was revealed that despite the module's author acknowledging that the players might not take the lord up on his offer to be servants, there was *absolutely nothing* about what to do in that case. No information useful for running the city in any way except as the players being ladder-climbing dark elf servants.

So, basically, I broke the module. x.x
